ABOUT LSVT

LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally.  People living with PD or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have trouble with getting around, getting dressed and with other activities of daily living. LSVT BIG effectively trains improved movements for any activity, whether “small motor” tasks like buttoning a shirt or “large motor” tasks like getting up from sofa or chair or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves walking, self-care and other tasks by helping people “recalibrate” how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions – more like the movements of everyone around them.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Dr. Travis Haysley completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from East Carolina University in 2017. He then traveled North to the University of Maine where he was a Master of Science student in Biomedical Science and began a Master of Business Administration program. He completed his thesis in 2020 over Zoom and then moved to Madison, Wisconsin, to start his Doctor of Physical Therapy education. During his time in Wisconsin, Travis completed the rest of his MBA program and graduated with his DPT in 2023. Since graduating, Travis has completed his certification in LSVT-BIG, making him a specialist in treating patients with Parkinson's disease.

Travis also enjoys treating all types of orthopedic and sports patients and has developed a passion for vestibular patients as well. During his downtime, Travis likes to be active and outside. He is currently trying to hike the tallest peak of every state and has submitted 15 so far. During baseball and football season, you can catch Travis watching the ECU Pirates whenever he can. Travis and his wife live in Richmond where they love to explore this city, trying new restaurants and breweries. They also love to have lazy days where they play with their dog at home.
