My Story
Hi! I'm Mara, a certified yoga instructor with more than 10 years of experience in hospice administration and a deep passion for helping others live well and stay connected through movement.
I have been teaching yoga for the past four years, bringing a gentle, encouraging approach that focuses on movement, breath, balance, mobility, strength, and meeting each person where they are.
My transition into Parkinson’s-focused exercise is especially meaningful because of my personal connection to the disease. My father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and lived with this progressive neurological condition during his later years. I witnessed firsthand how beneficial weekly Parkinson’s exercise classes were for him—not only physically, but also for his confidence, independence, and overall quality of life.
I was born and raised in Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University–ATI with an Associate degree in Floral Design & Marketing. I later earned my Bachelor’s degree in Child & Family Studies from Ashland University. I have called Midlothian, Virginia, home since 2014.
Outside of teaching yoga and mindfulness, I enjoy crafting, reading, gardening, being outdoors, and listening to a variety of music genres. I have been married to my husband of 29 years and have two adult daughters, a son-in-law, and a grandson.
I'm excited to create a welcoming, supportive environment where participants can move, connect, build confidence, and enjoy the many benefits of staying active.
