Gary grew up in Pasadena, Maryland and at 18 joined the Navy and served from 1986 to 1990. He met his wife while she attended Longwood College and later attended VCU and graduated as a Physical Therapist. After graduation, they decided to stay in the Richmond area. Gary and his wife have been married for 29 years and have two sons, Ryan and Colin.
Gary is a retired fire Lieutenant and paramedic from Chesterfield Fire and EMS. He retired after 26 years of service to the citizens of Chesterfield County. During his tenure, he was a member of the peer support team for over 10 years. During that time, he provided support to fire service personnel who experienced traumatic events as fire and EMS providers.
Gary was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012 at the age of 44. Since his diagnosis and retirement, it has been his passion to help those with Parkinson’s. He wants to be an advocate and friend to those affected by Parkinson’s during their journey and hopefully help make a difference.
Gary very quickly hit the ground running at POP. His passions around mitigating the cost of Parkinson’s’ medications and ensuring our community has the resources they need have led to partnered educational events with VCU Health. Gary also serves POP by seeking (and securing!) sustainable funding mechanisms that assist the foundation in executing its mission.
Gary also serves as a POP Advisor, click HERE if you’d like to connect with him.
